Six Important Fashion Tips for Short Women
Even if you're not supermodel tall, you can still look fantastic in the latest fashions. Short women have some advantages in the fashion world. It can be harder for tall women to find clothing. You can only add some much length to
If you wear a different color on top as opposed to the bottom, you tend to cut your body in half visually which makes you appear shorter. This is particularly true if one color is light and the other dark. Instead try wearing a monochromatic outfit in a single shade of shirt and pants or shirt and skirt. This creates a long, lean line that adds the illusion of height to your figure.
Fashion tips for short women: Wear dark colors.
Dark colors, particularly if monochromatic, add the illusion of height. A black top and slim black pants with carefully chosen accessories and moderate to high heels in black gives a long, lean sophisticated line that's perfect for a variety of occasions. Dark colors also make you look slimmer which is an added bonus.
You'll appear to be taller if you wear a pants length that covers the shoe. The popular Capri style pant can break your height and make your appear shorter. Straight pants are also more flattering than flared ones if you want to appear taller.
Fashion tips for short women: Wear higher waisted pants and skirts for maximum height.
High waisted pants can add the illusion of height and greater leg length. Avoid hip pant styles if you're shorter in stature.
Fashion tips for short women: Choose a thinner belt.
Fashion Tips for the Plus Sized Woman
When I was growing up, I remember that models had real figures. While they were obviously still very slim and trim, they were by no means a size two. So I wonder exactly when anything above a size eight began to be considered "fat?" Where was I at the time? Why didn't I get the memo?
I was a size eight on my wedding day. At five foot, eight inches, I weighed around 115 pounds. I was by all standards of the time considering about 10 pounds underweight. In today's world, however, I would have been considered bordering on "fat." I'm no longer a size eight and I recognize that I could stand to lose more weight. I'm working on that. However, in the meantime, I still want to be fashionable. Unfortunately, the fashion world doesn't like to design fashions for real women; those above a size twelve. They seem to think that we "fatties" want to wear audacious colors, huge floral prints, and nothing but muumuus.
Today's plus size woman, for the most part, has come to accept herself for who she is. Rather than focusing on what she cannot be - - a size two - -she focuses on her brains and her heart. And because she is so confident and strong, she deserves to be treated with respect.
Even those designers who believe that anyone over size twelve doesn't deserve their respect, should recognize the size of the market they are neglecting. According to American Demographics, today's plus size market represents more than $25 billion a year. That equates to about one-quarter of all clothing sales. With those figures, one would think that some designer out there would want to solicit our business.
While the market is slowly changing, in the meantime, plus sized women have to figure out what to choose from the limited fashions available. So here are some tips to help my voluptuous sisters:
Looking Great At Any Size
No matter what your size, any woman can look beautiful if she knows a few tricks to help her look her best. Plus sized women are no exception. Stars like Delta Burke have shown us that a woman’s weight has nothing to do with her beauty. Knowing how to choose the right clothes, the right jewelry the right makeup, and the right hairstyle can transform any woman into a fashion diva!
When choosing a wardrobe, don’t follow the myth that all women over a size six should be covered in dark colors. If you look great in dark colors, fine! But don’t sentence yourself to wearing them all the time! However, choosing the same color in jackets and pants, no matter it’s hue or shade, can make a woman look slimmer. If you like khaki pants, and can choose a sweater or jacket in the same color khaki, the solid line of color all the way down the body creates a line that makes any body appear slimmer. You can wear a blouse in a contrasting color to add that needed bit of drama. Choose those colors that make you shine!
Remember, in choosing think vertical, not horizontal! Bold buttons down the front of a jacket, a long necklace, and vertical stripes are all ways of “thinking vertical”. These tricks draw the eye up and down, not side to side. Don’t let fashion myths keep you from wearing the colors that make you feel good. When you feel good, you’ll look good!
The one area I see many women making a huge mistake in dressing is size. If you wear a twenty, don’t try to squeeze into an eighteen. Just because they zip, doesn’t mean they fit!
Pants should drape, not wrinkle tightly across the back of the leg. Skirts should hang without tugging or hugging the underside of the bottom. Blouses should not gape open at the buttons. No matter what your size, choose cloths that fit. If you have any doubts, ask the opinion of the sales girl as to the fit. Wearing cloths that are too tight makes you look larger, not smaller.
side, create an angle that slims a round face. Light feathering of hair around the face can soften the lines, too. But you see a hairstyle you love, don’t hesitate to try something new!
Jewelry on a plus-sized woman should be larger and bolder. Don’t think tiny chains and dainty bracelets. Bangle bracelets and chunky pendants help to balance out the total look. You are lucky to be able to wear bolder jewelry! It just doesn’t look good on a skinny model! But on us plus sized women…fabulous!
No matter what your size, you can look fantastic. The most important rule of all is to choose what makes you feel good. When you feel good, you will look great!
Fashion Tips for Pregnant Women
Here are a few hints to find that special outfit:
Certain styles look especially good on pregnant women such as A-line skirts, empire-waist dresses and tops, and pencil skirts paired with swingy shirts. If you are feeling really self-conscious about your changing body accentuate other parts of your body that you feel more comfortable with. To get people to notice your neck and shoulders choose a shirt with a ballet-cut or bateau neckline, or dress all in one color and add a scarf or some other stunning accessory. Then people will notice you're accessories and after your pregnancy you won't feel bad that you spent money on them because you can keep on wearing them. Some accessories could be a brightly colored piece of jewelry, a pair of shoes that match your handbag, a colorful scarf or a button-up sweater.
A money-saving tip for maternity clothing shopping is to avoid impulse buying. Make a list of a few must-have items that can go with almost everything. For stay-at-home moms this list may include a pair of jeans, a pair of dressy black pants, a black or some other universal colored skirt, two shirts, and a casual dress. For working moms you will probably need to add two or three more skirts, another pair of dressy pants and a couple more shirts. This should be good for your initial shopping trip, then on later shopping trips try to buy things that will match what you already have, and try to limit what you get later to just one or two items. Another tip is to buy cloths that have a style that matches the style you wore before your pregnancy. You'll feel better about the way you look and be more likely to keep the clothing for your next pregnancy, which will save you money.
Best Handbag Choices for Petite Women
The right handbag can make you look thinner if you're naturally stocky or athletic, or simply add some weight to your figure if you're long and lean. The key thing to remember for the style-savvy petite woman: choose a shape that is the opposite of your body type. Being petite and carrying a too-small purse or bag will only overemphasize your smaller features. On the other hand, an overly large bag or tote is also unattractive. You'll want to find the perfect match with a medium-sized purse, bag, or tote whenever possible, On your search for the perfect handbag, here are a few tips:
1. Choose a bag that is proportionate to your size.
Even though you're looking for your opposite, don't overdo it with an excessively large tote. The season's best picks include hobos, satchels, and rounded ruched bags that are medium-sized. Structured bags will also give you a smooth and polished look. Top designers that offer structure and proportion: Marc by Marc Jacobs, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton.
2. Don't carry a handbag under your arm.
3. Choose something that is opposite to your body type.
If you're a tall and skinny petite, pick something that's rounded and has some extra weight. If you're short and muscular, look for slim silhouettes and rectangular or structured styles. Top designers to get this look right: Marc by Marc Jacobs, the Indy Bag by Gucci, or a classic Birkin.
This season's ritzy metallic looks and flamboyant colors are bold and will definitely catch the crowd's eye. Use this to your advantage by finding the right size and adjust the shoulder strap (if there is one) to sit at the most flattering place on your body. Adjustable shoulder straps are a great way to keep things in order. The Chloe Paddington is a great choice in brushed silver, while the Miu Miu patchwork quilted tote is another attention-getter. Play around with different looks and see what fits with your personal style.
5. Use the miniature handbags for special occasions only
Shopping for the perfect handbag is an adventure for any woman, but petite women in particular have the challenge of finding the right proportion and style combinations. Make sure you have a chance to explore the variety of handbags available before selecting your loyal companion. Today's designers offer plenty of distinct shapes and sizes that can be used to your (size) advantage.
